Pulp – Year-end calm… Before the storm (?)
Pap'Argus 12/17/2013 9:33:12 AM
Pulp: Stability confirmed as year-end approaches. Long fiber pulp moved up a few points but is still below the 900 dollars/t the producers would like to see. As for the previously stated target of $920, this is moving further away into 2014. The most realistic figure, according to buyers, is 885 dollars/t., “in a balanced market entering its normally quiet, in terms of demand, year-end”. Fitch: Latin American Pulp Producers Face Challenging 2014
Dow Jones News Wires 12/16/2013 3:07:00 PM
Fitch Ratings - Chicago - December 16, 2013 -- Market fundaments for pulp producers are expected to be weak in 2014 and prices should remain low, according to new Fitch Ratings report. 'The capital structures of pulp producers will not improve materially due to high investments and low pulp prices.' Full Story...

GRAPHIC GRADES: Activity remains depressed and any hopes for an upturn will now have to wait for January 2014. Among the producers, the economic reality is worse than dull: Some are struggling in the dark and see no signs of anything positive whatsoever, others are more optimistic and feel that at any given moment, the recovery could start. There is one parameter favorable to a recovery and that is the vast destocking that took place through 2013: “We need to rematch procurement to consumption, we need to buy more to ensure what we supply”, says one of them.
